Protected from the open Atlantic, the Bras d'Or lakes have an ecosystem all their own - they are saltwater lakes complete with lobster and oyster. In 2011 they were declared a unique UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This trip is especially suited to families and those wanting gentler adventure. Price: $635. West Bras d'Or Islands- 5 DaysExplore the Mi'kmaq waterways of the Bras d'Or Lakes - Cape Breton's Inland Sea. Glacier-carved and protected from the open Atlantic, the Bras d'Or lakes have an ecosystem all their own - they are saltwater lakes complete with lobster and oyster. In 2011 they were declared a unique UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This trip is an extended sea kayaking experience without some of the demands of open-water paddling.
